retreat?

Some of you who check this know that we held a fall and spring retreat last year - it was a good time of connecting with one another and seeking a deeper connection with God.  We aiming at having another retreat in a couple of weeks - the weekend of Dec. 10-12.  I'm going to include some details below for those of you interested, let me know if you would like to join us!

• What - Young Adult Retreat
• Where - Camp Rivercrest in Fremont, NE
• Cost - $60, includes four meals and lodging
• When - Friday Dec. 10 @ 6 p.m. until Sunday Dec. 12 @ noon
• Purpose - Pursuing God and deeper community

the brokering watch party.

For those of you who still check this rarely written on blog, you know that in the fall Josh Brokering is the king of Husker watch parties.  That being the case, he will be hosting one this weekend for the kickoff of the Huskers' final season in the Big XII.  If you're not excited about that, watch this video:

spiritual warfare.

What are you doing tomorrow and Saturday? If you have a bit of freedom I'd highly suggest that you make your way over to LBC for the CLC seminar series on spiritual warfare.  Here's a couple of tidbits that have come our way so far:

• Did you know that Scripture suggests that there are regional spiritual authorities (demons)?
• Can a believer be indwelled by a demon?
• Why did Jesus allow Satan to issue three temptations before he told him to take off?

retreat reschedule.

This winter will always be remembered by me as the winter that would not end.  

Some of you might be familiar with the cult classic "Endless Summer."  The movie is pretty poorly made but for winters like this it just might hit the spot.  The story goes like this: two buddies who are nuts about surfing decide that they want to chase summer around the world and surf all the while.  So they do. That's the movie - actually, that's the documentary cause that's what these guys did.  With a winter like ours, this might be more than anyone can bear.

 

If anyone would ever be so silly as to chase the endless, dreary, winter...Lincoln, Nebraska would be the place to be.

This gets me to my point:

Because of the weather and lack of turnout we
have decided to postpone our retreat until May 14 - 16.

Our hope is that by that time the beginning of our hot and humid summer will be near.  Stay posted for more information on the retreat in the coming month as we'll start to advertise towards the end of March.

 

retreat: a reflection on community.

Back in October a group of us set out for Fremont, NE and a little place called Camp Rivercrest in order to have a weekend experience in Solitude.  Almost four months have passed since that moment and the time has come again for a retreat.

This time around our focus will be on COMMUNITY. We want to ask the questions: What is it? Why is it important? and How do we foster its growth? 

Our location will be the same - Camp Rivercrest in Fremont.  Here's the details:

What: Retreat on Community

When: February 26 - February 28

Where: Camp Rivercrest (about an hour away)

Cost: $50 - includes lodging and four meals

josh's place is the place to watch husker games.

A trend has been established...I think Josh is trying to serve himself up as a rival to Memorial Stadium's 300 consecutive sellouts.  This is Josh's 4th consecutive Husker watch party at his crib.  Check out the Calendar for details.  Also, just because Husker youtube videos never get old...I'll include the best one I've ever found:

the launch of men's fraternity.

This morning we launched the second year of Men's Fraternity at Lincoln Berean Church.  It's a pretty amazing thing to make that drowsy drive into the parking lot at 6 a.m. and see a parking lot full of guys who are making a sacrifice in order to learn and grow.  Here's a picture of our time this morning:

Along with breakfast we also had a special video from Robert Lewis, the founder of Men's Fraternity.

Finally...it's not too late to join us.  Our year starts in earnest next week at 6:10 a.m. in the Upper Room.
